Location

Avoncroft Cottage is located in the small village of High Hawsker, situated just off the main A171 Whitby to Scarborough road. Close enough to Whitby and Robin Hood's Bay so that you can easily pop in to visit the attractions and restaurants, but far enough away so you can retreat to the peace and tranquility of the country.

Avoncroft Cottage makes an excellent base to explore the Yorkshire Coast and the North Yorkshire Moors. The North sea coast is just 15 minutes walk away whilst the friendly "Hare and Hounds" pub, with a large selection of lunchtime and evening meals, is just a short stroll down the road!

For Walkers, Avoncroft Cottage is slap-bang in the middle of the North York Moors National Park. Please see our "Walks" page for some easy circular walks which start and end at the cottage, both coastal and inland.

For Cyclists, Avoncroft Cottage couldn't be better situated: the Moor-to-Sea cycle way runs just behind the cottage and bike hire is available down the road at Trailways Cycle Hire. Avoncroft has a large, secure garage so you can safely store your own bicycles overnight, and there is an outside tap to wash them down when muddy. Getting Here

By Road

From Whitby travel south on the A171. After about 2.5 miles turn left into High Hawsker, following signs for Robin Hood's Bay (B1447). You will pass the "Hare and Hounds" pub on the right, and Avoncroft is a little further on the left.

From Scarborough travel north on the A171. Turn right into High Hawsker. Bare left past the right turn to Robin Hood's Bay as if you were going back on to the A171 and Avoncroft is just a bit further on the right.

By Public Transport

The nearest train station is in Whitby. The train station in Scarborough also has a good bus connection to High Hawsker. Bus 93(a) which runs between Whitby to Scarborough passes through High Hawsker. The bus stop is half a minute walk from the Cottage.
